This is Sport Race 99 in the Sport HangarLancair Legacy Sport Race 2 inthe Sport HangarOne of the Questair Venture aircraft. This one, named Bad Intentions,  is running in the SuperSport Class. Race SuperSport 71New this year to Reno, this is a SuperSport Race 15. It is a GP-5 flown by vetern pilot Lee BehelModified Thunder Mustang, Rapid Travel runs a V-12 Falconer engine and is very fast.  SuperSport Race 75Designed and built for speed, the NXT aircraft forced the creation of the SuperSport Class. Here Renlentless, SuperSport Race 42 sits in it's own tent outside the Sport Class HangarShown here is a heat of the SuperSports. Here Kevin Eldridge is taxiing by our pylon.Kevin's luck was good news, bad news all week. He experienced several maydays but always got #42 down in one piece. Here the fire and rescue personel are putting out a fire in the engine compartment.Once the fire was out, they inspected SuperSport #42 that had lost it's spinner, prop, balance weights and part of the cowl at high speed.Powerless SS#42 being towed back to it's hangar. Notice the damage to the front of the aircraft.SS Race 42 sheared the prop extention, lost the prop, spinner and blew the engine at approximately 370 mph. Here you can see the damage to the motor, prop hub, motor mount etc.SuperSport Race #69 experienced a mayday when he lost oil pressure and his engine died.Here is SS#75 taking off. In one heat, he was trailing  smoke near the end of his heat and held it together for a win and immeadiatly declared a mayday.After the aircraft bounced up off the runway, it stalled and the right wing dug into the ground beginning the cartwheel that followsThe engine and tail are being ripped from the aircraft by the extreme forces.As the aircraft disintegrates around the pilot, a tremendous amount of energy is being absorbedAmazingly George Giboney of Des Moines, WA, received only a few bumps and bruises.
This is the Sport and Super Sport Classes.  These are for the most part, kit aircraft, built by individuals, however, you can buy them nearly finished as well. Number of occupants varies up to 4 and speeds range from mid 200 to over 400 mph. Most aircraft are of composite construction.
